Brent Borgundvaag is a Toronto based photographer. Born in Canada into a Norwegian family, he works in landscape, wildlife, and documentary photography.

Since 1999 he has photographed Gujo Hachiman, a town of fifteen thousand in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, Japan — its festivals, its rivers, its winters. That work spans twenty-seven years and was published as “Gujo Hachiman Through a Canadian Photographer’s Eyes” in 2022.

His wildlife work has been made in the Maasai Mara, at Ol Pejeta, and in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and other East African countries, often including named and documented individuals. He has photographed in Antarctica, Northern Norway, Svalbard, and in cities across Asia and Europe.

He works in black and white, and in colour when colour is the subject.

His grandmother was press secretary to Roald Amundsen.
